about

Many are called but few are chosen…as they say. I wrote and even recorded a number of songs for NO STRAIGHT LINES that didn’t make it on the album. “Tale Of My Life” is one of them, provided here as a Bonus Track. With references to fado, the Prado, the cello and so on, the lyric pokes fun at some of the elements of NO STRAIGHT LINES and at taking oneself too seriously…or perhaps it merely reminds us that each of us is the celebrated genius of his/her own life!

I wrote “Tale Of My Life” in a hotel room in Lisbon, with many optional verses, some even more ridiculous than these!

lyrics

on the day that I was born
twas felt a hesitation
to provide the earth a moment
to gather its rotation
in awe of my arrival
in honor of my survival
no bigger than a bible
on the day that I was born

all the details of my birth
have received enough attention
so there’s no need now in dwelling on
my overall dimensions
a solitary man
a man without pretensions
no dawning apprehensions
on the day that I was born

on the day that I was born
on the day that I was born
it began like any other
as everybody knows
I thank my father and my mother
from my head down to my toes

and when I rose up on my feet
later known as my ascension
the world became complete
and received my rapt attention
and I produced a stream of spittle
the product of my essence
and I uttered my first sentence
on the day that I was born

in honor of my body
in a place they call Cremona
they say the cello was created
or maybe it was Pomona
and here is where the story
always gets a little muddy
cause my memory was fuzzy
on the day that I was born

on the day that I was born
on the day that I was born
it began like any other
as everybody knows
I thank my father and my mother
from my head down to my toes

on the day that I was born
they commenced to sing the fado
and the very moment following
they opened up the Prado
and these are just a couple
of the very sorts of incidents
that don’t strike me as coincidence
on the day that I was born

on the day that I was born
on the day that I was born
it began like any other
as everybody knows
I thank my father and my mother
from my head down to my toes
